Dodge County, Ga

Dodge County, Georgia was created October 26, 1870 from parts of Montgomery, Telfair and Pulaski counties.

"Some time ago, I can't say when,

It was done by wise and solemn men,

Old generous Laurens gave a nook,

Some from Pulaski we took,

Montgomery had a little to spare,

The rest was furnished by Telfair,

To make the County of Dodge"

Named in honor of William Earl Dodge (1805-1883) who came from New York. A lumberman and industrialist.

The County Seat was named in honor of William Pitt Eastman of New Hampshire, who donated land for the new town, county seat and also donated the land for the courthouse. A village that grew up around Station 13 of the Macon and Brunswick Railroad, built through Dodge County in March 1869. The first marriage on record in the county occured on April 6, 1871 between David Wright and Mary B. Evans.

Town of Rhine: It was about the year 1886 that the Seaboard Airline Railroad was built and the town of Rhine sprang up. The town was built on land which was owned for many years by J.M Swymer.
